Quick Animation Review - Archives

February 2010

Pokoyo!…a charming and unique style of animation. Very focused on composition, timing and posing with little use of inbetweens. It works great – visually appealing and so much fun to watch. I love this show (and so do my kids:)

This dumb bear makes me laugh every time! Good acting here, notice how you can always tell what he is thinking and feeling. Great physical comedy. No dialogue, just one laugh after the other.

I know it’s a little late for St. Paddy’s day, but I just stumbled upon this and had to put it up here. The comedic timing is great, especially the little stumble on the second brewski and the subtle head movement on the second clink during the last brew. The entrance for the last brew is just halarious and the holds really sell it near the end. The more I watch this the funnier it is.

I really like the acting in this. The use of holds really gives the charaters time to think and react to each other. The change of emotion/train of thought is done well with facial animation. Although it has it’s own originality I can’t help but notice the John Kricfalusi influence. The directing is nice – good choices with framing and paceing of the shots. I’m also a big fan of how the work was left at raw drawings – as with all classical animation the rough boiling lines give it a real live and organic feel.
